My CV. Hello, anybody willing to try a mad guy?
ASHISH VYAS
Position applied for: Creative Director
I am a Postgraduate in Management (M.B.A.), and I quit my last job in October, 07, as I wanted to go on a sabbatical. Was working with Quadrant Communications, as an Associate Creative Director, for a duration of almost 3.5 years.
I have a good cross-disciplinary knowledge and have worked on brands across a wide range of categories like Cigarettes, Consumer durables, Garments, Hospitality, Logistics Management, Consumer Durables, Banking, Airlines, ISP’s, Media, Dotcoms and Healthcare.
The next move:
I am looking for an opportunity where my team is given a mandate to create something radically different. Where the team gets a chance to explore, experiment, and evolve new insights, ideas and new models of communication. And this is possible only if the top management is willing to give a chance to change. Damn conventions, damn the regular, damn the status-quo.
Also, would love to run, and see business being run with a heavy emotional quotient, because in this rat race, human capital has been reduced to mere numbers. I seek a green signal from the management for in a more human, more alive approach towards ideas as well as human capital.
I would love to work towards making my next company, a fully-integrated ideas workshop where the mission is : a new idea everyday! A la-3M in the field of communication. Because creativity is much more than just print and TV campaigns.
What I did during the sabbatical (October 07, to May 08)
Writing a book, based my life’s experiments. Culled 13 parts of it and have submitted it to a producer who wants to convert it into a serial( a modern day malgudi days story)
Finished compiling my street-life photo-essays( tentative date for exhibition: 22nd July)
Starting working on 3 new series of cartoons; political/India thru animals’ eyes/international
Managed some good funding for my animal hospital, which treats sick/stray/abandoned animals
I
nitiated the project of celebrity t-shirts- only meant for Hollywood celebrities
Submitted 3 pilot stories to the Azeem Premji foundation- Modern day short stories for children
Experimented with new media models
Helping the local vegetable vendors with creative strategies to counter the onslaught of biggies like Reliance Fresh, and Big Bazaar
Most Important of all, reformed myself on parameters like timeliness, reaching meetings on time, waking up early, cutting down my smoking, catching up with all my old friends, contacts and acquaintances, spending lots of time with my kids, before they start calling calling me “Koi uncle hain”
THE WAY AHEAD
In an information hungry economy, it's news that works. It's news that breaks the clutter. Working on this basic premise, my focus is to create work that makes news, and not advertising. Guerilla marketing, Ambient media, Installations, Publicity stunts et al..backed by mass media- that's what I believe in.
STYLES AND STRENGTHS
My ideas are brutally simple, focused and I experiment a lot with single shot films. Ideas with a true Indian flavour come to me naturally coz I’m a very street life person. That’s where my ideas and inspiration comes from. In print, I rely heavily on visuals, as I don't think I’m a very good writer. I’m a keen observer and I like to apply my creative abilities in all spheres of life. Of course, I don't mean to say that I turn the 69 position into 96! But almost. Weakness(es)...include beer, impulsive buying, and most importantly, the inability to reach office at 9.30 am!
WORK PHILOSOPHY: When the whole world is against u, either your terribly right, or terribly wrong.. I believe that the best ideas are the ones that are brutally simple...ideas don’t depend on budgets, yes, they sure depend on guts and the will to try out something new and different. today, when it comes to advertising and marketing, what is most needed is: either big budgets, or balls( of steel) There is no middle path

· Developing a micro-shopping model (based on microfinancing- Grameen bank) for a retail chain client.
· Have developed a strong team at Quadrant, where each member is given enough freedom and enough space to operate on his/her own
· Am trying to put in place a few systems where more focus is laid on live ideas, real advertising.
· Grooming new talent within the agency: Like providing support to the cut-paste artist, providing him support and helping him become a jewellery designer. Teaching the security guys how to handle a PC, making them literate and help them in their career.

A general overview of my mind
FOR THE RECORD: Working in advertising, and done work for many great brands like AIR FRANCE, PHILIPS, VOLTAS, NIVEA, RAYMONDS, GATI LOGISTICS, GLAXO, NOVARTIS, INDIAN OIL, MARRIOT, SBI MUTUAL FUND, SANSUI, FAIRGLOW, KENSTAR, ASIAN AGE. ORCHID.
WORK PHILOSOPHY: When the whole world is against u, either ur terribly right, or terribly wrong. Well, in my case, its happened both ways. when ive got awards, n wen i ve got sacked. tasted both, in equal flourish.
PERSONALITY: Crazy humour, wild ideas, always happy n happening. why? bcoz u dont need a reason to be happy, of course u do. if u want to be sad. am a split personality in many ways...so wen im with god, i simply let go everything n i cry without a reason, i feel his warmth, i feel his hands over me. and maybe immediately after reading gita, i mite switch on a porn movie n enjoy it with a chilled beer.
WHAT KEEPS ME ROCKING: I operate best in chaos, clutter, and madness. total peace doesnt make me happy...i need to be in the midst of action, happenings, activity, fights, street side brawls, rushing late, catching flights last moment, multi tasking...etc. 2 things that keep me rocking; Beer, and people who r dear.
COLORS I LOVE: Blue9 coz of its depth n vastness) and Red..( coz its fire, its love, its passion, its madbness, obsession. guys, u need to want something so badly, that it has to happen.
ASPIRATIONS/GOALSTo be known as a very good human communicator, who helped shape minds, attitudes and behaviousr, and someone who helped usher in change in his workspace and in the people n community around him.
STRANGE PPL IVE MET: i love interacting and love making new frends. i eaves drop, i observe, i gain valuable insights from ppl and the surroundings. for instace, ive met many strange ppl like this magnet uncle who collects waste pieces of metal n scrap from sand n dust on the roads, a drunken scinetist who is working towards nullying the theory of gravity, a woman i gave a lift, who had ctried commiting suicide after she discovered her newly wed husband was a chakka, met a strange women who invited me home and then asked me to hav a 3some with her n her daughter( i ran bcoz i was scrared, not that im a sharif guy) ....etc.etc...
WHAT IS ME??t's really difficult to define myself in such a small box. not bcoz im some hot shot, but bcoz i find definitions pretty restrictive in nature. neverthless, i will try.Was born when perhaps, the gods must be crazy. So, doing mad crazy things, following a path untrodden, experimenting with new ideas, and questioning existing..is wat makes me tick.on the personal front, i have one wife, 2 kids and 3 dogs( ask my wife n she will say she has not 3, but 4 dogs). incidentally, i met my wife while trying to help a bleeding donkey on the road...n that day when this amazing woman stopped by, to volunteer, she dint know who she was meeting. Well, as fate would hav it, she later on came to be known as my wife.Initial years, brought up in zimbabwe, later on in surat, n then, last 8 years in bombay. Life has been amazingly happy and happening.
BEEN THERE, DONE THATIve been there, done that all. Right from making a specs with a rear view mirror, to dissecting frogs jus to impress a girl i liked in the science section, to having a dish antenna business, to trying to build my own personal chopper, to trying to be a flower supplier to becoming a don( a la dawood bhai) who would only wear white-n-white, to being kidnapped as a case of mistaken identity, to falling in love with a hare rama hare krishna sadhvi( she was a firang), to almost becoming a misiionary, to becoming a spy for the police department, to meeting rajiv gandhi's assasin face to face...to making my bike into a total james bond kinda gizmo bike, to making my own customsed caps..to failing in one mission 13 times in a row, yet the 14th time i got it...it's all coming up in my book called: My experiments with truth, lies, gandhiji, sex, and ekta kapoor.
WORKWISE: Did my MBA and jumped into creative..coz that's my first love. I blive that the best ideas are the ones that r bruttaly simple...ideas dont depend on budgets, yes, they sure depend on guts and the will to try out something new and different. today, wen it comes to advertising and marketing, wat is most needed is: either big budgets, or balls( of steel) there is no middle path.
DREAMSGoing to Amsterdam( u know why, to spend time seeing goddesses), going to mansarovar( to spend time with god) and most important, to start an animal orphanage in the near future.
THE REASON OF MY EXISTENCE: Everyone is born, grows up, fucks, creates kids, then worries bout bringing up kids, then grows old and finally dies. guys, im not gona be a parasite or just another organism. im here to carry out some mission. To try to do as much for my country, to be the change that my country needs, and to spread the word n belief that yes, u can be the idfference.
WHAT I CURRENTLY DO: U must have read it, yet once again: Am into advertisng, political cartooning, writing short stories, photo features, street life photo graphy, a consumer activist, a citizen reporter, a anti corruption bearue crusader, want to launch my own line of wild and whacked out shirts n t-shirts, want to make a short film(s), experimenting with newer mediums of advertisng and communication...and most important of all, running a small one room clininc for stray animals in new bombay.

How many times i must have said to myself , that yes, i will start my ideas blog today..but today never came, till today. If Raymond brought to us, the complete man, here i am, contra-competing him, for, i still remain an incomplete man, mainly becoz i hav to do a lot of things as yet. Like that famous poem...many many more miles before i sleep.
Im putting all that i have done, am saying all that i am, and wat im not, am expressing myself in a million ways as much as i can, n les see how this goes on now. its a resolution that i will do this blog on a d aily basis...its almost 2 in the nite, as im starting this blog...god willing , it shall go on and on now..forever....
i really dont understnad my brain, coz its split in too many parts. ITs into advertising, cartooning, short stories,social n animal welfare, new media, political commentries, tshirt designing, photo essays, etc etc.
ive heard the common refrain, of the power of focus, but then am i spreading my ideas n brains too thin, or can i say that im an ideas person, minus any limitations of media, mediums and charters.
wat if i do a brilliant advertising campaign, wat if i do daily cartooning, wat if my first 2 customised n celebrity centric tshirts hav reached paris hilton, wat if i device a modern day cradle where a mom doesnt hav to wake thru the nite to rock the cradle, wat if im helping vegetable vendors tecniks n ideas how to fight modern retail giants like relaince fresh, wat if i can generate more donations for the animal hospital im so much associated with , wat if if i tell my wife that hey, i love u, but i find that babe very very hot n i would fantasize bout her, wat if i feel theres a difference between love, n lust( women disagree most of the times i guess), wat if i want to live a life without masks n any pretensions, wat if i wana flatter no one n still progress fast, by calling some bosses assholes, ....wat if i want to be the change the world wants, wat if i can live a life which is much more meaningful, even if its short, n bring about revolutionary changes in the ideas business...as wel as the society n my own country...
yes, i can, i will, i must. or else theres no difference between me n a parasite or an organism, which jus originates, grows, multiplies and then perishes.
i guess theres much more to life tham jus living!
